HP Laptop - 14-fq0020nr

Turning on the computer it pops up with Boot Device Not Found and then under it says Please install an operating system on your hard disk.

Hard Disk- 3F0

I have tried to go and load system defaults on the F10 screen but that didn't work either.  The computer does not have a CD ROM drive, and my warranty is expired. I do not have another Windows device just 2 Google Chromebooks, one which is an Hp Chromebook.  If someone can please help because I need my computer to work from home.

Hi @Booger_Bear0510,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for explaining your situation—this is frustrating, especially when you rely on your laptop for work. The “Boot Device Not Found – Hard Disk (3F0)” error on your HP Laptop 14-fq0020nr usually means the system can’t detect the hard drive, or the boot sector is corrupted.

To check if the hardware is working or not, please try to run a hardware test on the pc and let us know the result.

Also, for recovery, Chromebook will not work; for OEM image download, you need to have a Windows 10 or above OS so the system can help get the download done to a 32gb USB drive.

Hard Drive test:

1) Shut down the computer.

2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.

3) Press F2 once.

4) Go to Component test.

5) From the list, run the Hard Drive (extensive) test.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
