Hi @Buffy22,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
When your HP Envy x360 is stuck in “Preparing Automatic Repair”, it means Windows is failing to boot normally and is trying to enter recovery mode. This can happen due to corrupted system files, bad updates, or hardware issues. Here’s how to fix it step by step:
Step 1: Perform a Hard Reset
- Power off the laptop completely.
- Disconnect the power adapter and any peripherals.
- Hold the Power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the power and turn it on.
Step 2: Boot into Advanced Startup
If it still shows “Preparing Automatic Repair”:
- Turn the laptop on and interrupt the boot 3 times:
- As soon as Windows starts loading, hold the Power button until it shuts down.
- Repeat this 3 times.
- On the 4th boot, Windows should show Advanced Startup Options.
Step 3: Use Recovery Tools
From Advanced Options:
- Startup Repair: Try this first.
- System Restore: If you have restore points.
- Uninstall Updates: Remove recent updates that may have caused the issue.
- Command Prompt:
- Run: chkdsk /f /r
sfc /scannow
- Run: chkdsk /f /r
These commands repair disk and system files.
Step 4: Disable Automatic Repair Loop
If stuck in a loop:
- In Command Prompt: bcdedit /set {default} recoveryenabled No
- Restart and see if it boots.
Step 5: Reset or Reinstall Windows
If nothing works:
- From Advanced Options, choose Reset this PC.
- Select Keep my files or Remove everything.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
