Connecting 2 monitors via USB-C port

I am trying to connect two separate monitors to my HP laptop using a Comsol USB-C to dual display port adapter and when i try it does not work I get the following message 'usb device not recognized'.  I have tested the adapter on both my mobile phone and partners hp laptop and it works perfectly.  I have tested the usb-c port on my laptop with my phone and that works.  So it is just an issue with the adaptor and my laptop, it just won't work?

I want to connect 2 external monitors not just 1 and my laptop only has 1 hdmi outlet.  Each monitor has a VGA and Display port, how can I do it?
