HI,

There was a dailog box notifying DESTINATION DRIVE NOT CONNECTED in my old internal hard disk, while installing OS 8.1 through recovery DVD, I ran the hard disk test and it failed. (I have a backup)

So I replaced it with new Seagate 1TB and while installing the OS 8.1, again DESTINATION DRIVE NOT CONNECTION dailog box is appearing.  What is this happening, please help.

There are a total of 5 DVD, the dailog box pops up at 4th DVD.

Please reply asap, urgent. Thanks in advance.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

  • The recovery kit you are using was it created on the same computer?

While you respond to that, let's try these steps:

Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8.

BIOS default:

  1. Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
  2. Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
  3. On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
  4. Press F10 to Save and Exit.
  5. Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
  6. Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Next step, Recommend you to follow the procedure mentioned in this article to perform the recovery using the recovery kit created on the computer.

If this fails, I would recommend trying using a new set of recovery media from HP support.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
