Hello: Had to install new HD and Windows7-64 bit O/S in an HP G62-358CA (Prod #X6950UA). But the wireless isn't recognized and I can't find drivers for the Network Controller - Hdwr I.D. PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8171&SUBSYS_1467103C&REV_10
The Network Adapter is Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller... not sure if that governs the wireless as well?
Would appreciate anyone who can point me in the right direction... I've tried all the drivers from the HP download page, but can't get anything to work.
Thank you.

You're very welcome, Mark.
Nothing is ever easy, is it?
I have never seen that error and have no idea what it means.
I am by no means an networking troubleshooter.
My expertise is in finding drivers. When they don't work as expected, I don't know what to do anymore than the next guy.
Uninstall that driver and try the older one from your notebook's support and driver page.
Maybe your PC has an issue with the newest driver.

Hi:
The wired and wireless adapters are separate devices using different drivers even though they are from the same device manufacturer.
Based on the hardware ID you posted, below is the link to the driver you need for your wireless network adapter.

Thanks very much for your quick response Paul. I downloaded and installed the driver and the wireless adapter no longer has the yellow warning sign, but when I try to use wireless I get the error " There might be a problem with your wireless adapter. Windows couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter"
Have you ever seen that msg?
Thanks again.

Excellent.
You're very welcome.
I just use the free MS security essentials for my anti-spyware anti- virus.

Your router should have a hardware firewall enabled by default, as well as the software firewall built in to windows.
I see no need for additional 3rd party firewalls which can gum up the works as you discovered.
But that is up to you.
