Hi @shreneek, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The DWMBlurGlass error is related to Desktop Window Manager (DWM), which handles graphical effects like transparency, blur, and animations in Windows. If it's crashing or failing to autoload, it could be due to:
Possible Causes:
- Corrupted System Files
- Graphics Driver Issues
- Third-party Software Conflicts
- Windows Update Issues
- Misconfigured Registry or Group Policy Settings
Steps to Fix the Issue:
1. Restart DWM Process
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager
- Find Desktop Window Manager (dwm.exe)
- Right-click and choose End Task (it will restart automatically)
2. Run SFC and DISM Scans (Fix System Corruption)
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator
- Run the following commands one by one:
sfc /scannow
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth - Restart the laptop after the process completes.
3. Update Graphics Drivers
- Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager)
- Expand Display adapters
- Right-click your GPU (both Intel and NVIDIA/AMD) and choose Update driver
- Select Search automatically for drivers
- Restart your laptop
4. Check Windows Updates
- Go to Settings > Windows Update
- Click Check for updates and install any pending updates
- Restart your laptop
5. Disable Third-Party Applications
- Boot into Safe Mode:
- Press Win + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter
- Go to the Boot tab and check Safe boot
- Restart your laptop
- If the error disappears, some third-party software is causing it.
- Identify and remove recent software (especially customization tools like Rainmeter, StartIsBack, etc.)
6. Modify the Registry (If Needed)
- Open Registry Editor (Win + R, type regedit, press Enter)
- Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\DWM
- Look for EnableBlurBehind
- If it’s missing, right-click, New > DWORD (32-bit) Value
- Name it EnableBlurBehind and set its value to 1
- Restart your laptop
7. Reset Windows (Last Resort)
If the issue persists, consider Resetting Windows:
- Go to Settings > System > Recovery
- Click Reset this PC > Choose Keep my files
- Follow the on-screen instructions
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
