Chromebook is dead and not taking a charge, under a year old. The power supply is working. Any suggestions?

Hi @Scat1003

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I acknowledge the concern regarding your HP Chromebook not charging. Since the power supply is confirmed to be working, let’s go through the recommended steps to address this situation:

Step 1: Perform a Hardware Reset

  1. Disconnect the AC adapter and any connected peripherals.
  2. Press and hold the Power button for at least 30 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the AC adapter and try powering on the Chromebook.

Step 2: Verify the AC Adapter and Port

  • Ensure the adapter is firmly connected to both the Chromebook and the wall outlet.
  • Check if the charging port is free of dust or debris.
  • If available, test with another compatible HP adapter to confirm charging behavior.

Step 3: Battery Status Check

  • With the adapter connected, press the Power button once and observe if the charging LED lights up.
  • If the LED does not respond, keep the Chromebook connected to power for at least 30 minutes before attempting to power on again.

These steps are designed to help restore charging functionality. If the Chromebook remains unresponsive after following them, the next step would be to consider servicing.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
