Trying to reset the desktop using a recovery USB made from the desktop. It got so far before telling me it couldn't continue - but it said it had made no changes. I tried to reboot in the normal way but the computer simply tells me there's no system installed and refuses to boot or to open BIOS. What can I do?

Can you run diagnostics?
Tap the ESC key after powering on and press F2 to run diagnostics.
If diagnostics cannot load or the BIOS cannot start then your bios is corrupted.
If the bios is corrupted you would not have seen a messages such as "no system installed"
If the ESC key does not work then try F10
Those keys need to be tapped once a second as soon as you see the keyboard flash or the monitor lights up. if you wait too long then the system needs to be fully shut down before trying again.
If a problem starting hold down the power button for 20 full seconds.
