Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I'm using an HP Rfrb h8-1280t [personal information removed], Product # QC461AAR, Win 7 home premium 64-bit Service pack 1.

Yesterday (01/23) I tried to do a restore to an earlier time. It failed. I then tried to Undo and it also failed.

After that, my desktop was blank except for the screen saver.

At the top left was the Recycle Bin icon.

At the bottom was the task bar with the Start and IE buttons on the left. On the right was the HP ?, hidden icons link along with internet access strength bars. and with the time and date.

In the middle of my desktop was the Warning = Location is not available. X C:\Users\Jsck's h8-1280t\Desktop is not accessible. Under that - Access is denied. OK

I've tried everything under the sun to find a way to get my desktop back to the way it was. Multiple searchs on the internet.  In addition, in my endeavors I've received two-three error codes - 0x8002302, 0x80004005, possibly a couple others I can't find where I wrote them down.

I went to Safe Mode and my desktop is there with all  Programs and Folders. I tried to do a restore while in Safe Mode and couldn't - said restore not available. I tried to access the Event log - not working.

While in the mode without the desktop, I can click on the Start button and on the left  are all the programs listed and the right the usual items,  My computer name, files, along with Computer, Control Panel, etc.

I've searched the internet, with my laptop, to find a solution but nothing works.

When I got the computer I made a set of recovery discs. in addition I have the complete HP System Recovery Set (6 discs).

So, here's my question:

Is it possible, using either the set I made or the HP set,  to find the file that will allow me to get me desktop back or will I have to do a full recovery? Or, is there a specific file that I can download to get my desktop back?

By the way. I'm making this post using the computer with the problem.

Hi @khone001,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues with the computer not booting properly. Don't worry I'll be glad to help you with this.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any software or hardware changes on the PC before the issue started?

Have you tried to run any startup repair on the PC

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the PC:

Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:

  1. If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.

If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.

  2. With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.

  3. With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.

  4. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.

You will have to perform a system recovery either using the CDs which you have made or using the recovery media shipped from HP.

Thank you for your response.
I've already completed the system restoral using HP furnished discs. Only needed disc 1. Didn't ask me to insert any others.
So far, everything seems to be working normally. My desktop is back and I am slowly adding important items. I had a back-up that I did using IDrive. No good. No way of telling what was backed-up even when the items are extracted. So, I'm copying from my laptop and pasting on my desktop. Later I will be using my portable hard drive to upload significant document, photos, and videos.
Again, thank you.
