HP Notebook - 17-ak001ax

Hi.
I am trying to get this laptop going again for a student.
It is an HP 17-ak001AX, PiD 2DN10PA3ABG,  S/N 8CG7352ZXN

Firstly when I got it to recover from the Recovery Partion it could complete, however upon booting into ADMIN it would tell me that files were missing.

I have tried to  use the  HP Cloud Recovery Tool but it refuses to acknowledge either my PiD or S/N.
Nor will trying to load windows from any media.

Do you know how I can download a decent Recovery Partition...  Otherwise I will have to bin this unit..
Many Thanks
Dave

Hi:

HP removes support for the cloud recovery tool once the PC reaches 5 years of age.

You can reinstall W10 by making a bootable USB installation flash drive with the Microsoft media creation tool from the link below:

Download Windows 10

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page:

Go in to the CMOS setup and set all defaults.  Be sure  Secure boot is enabled and that the date and time are correct.

I assume you can boot  and get into admin.  if so,  bring up the administrators prompt and copy and paste this command to get any missing windows files.

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

If you are not concerned about any existing student data file then I recommend you put in windows 11.  Let me know if you want to do that as I have a procedure that will work on really old PCs.

Or you can put in windows 10 as Paul suggested.

Hi.
I have tried that but to no avail.  What ever I do it will not recognise the  new bootable USB.
I have tried turning off TPM, Using legacy mode or UFI mode.
Often it will keep forcing F11..  Ignore F9

It will either try and reboot into the broken old recovery with the missing files, or cycle back the the trouble shooting page,
That what I am trying to get a working Recovery Tool image.

Many thanks
Dave
