Could someone explain to me, without providing links because they dont seem to work, how to disable the following shortcut keys

Ctrl+Alt+S (Brings up System Information)

Ctrl+Alt+R (Brings up Documents Folder)

I have another program that uses these keys and it keeps being minimized because of the HP shorcuts.

Hi

Since you are a little light on details I have to make assumptions and generally guess.

My Ctrl + Alt + R brings up Recovery Manager and I can change or delete that option.

So I guess you can find the offending programs and do something similar.

Light on details? I gave exactly what the buttons do.... I didnt install any program. The computer just came with these shortcut keys.

The other program that uses said keys has no way of altering it.

Hi

Well if you did not install any program it is just unfortunate that 2 applications that came with the computer share the same shortcut keys.

You don't mention what the other program is, and perhaps it is not supposed to be able to alter shortcut keys which is why it has no way of so doing.

The application that brings up the things mentioned is part of the computer, the application I installed, being a video game is not. Whatever is causing the shortcut hotkeys to activate in video games needs to be disabled but I have no clue what it is.

Hi

Well like I said originally you were a little light on detail.

You said you had not installed anything, now I guess you did actually install something, a game.

Microsoft say that shortcuts may vary by country, because the keyboards may vary by country.

So you will need someone with the same game and the same country keyboard layout to check this out.

Pressing Ctrl+Alt+S keys simultaneously while using software or playing a game can sometimes cause a Support Information window to open.

You could sidestep an actual fix and just rename the Support Info program file. It's at either

C:\Program Files (x86)\Hp\HP System Event\
or
C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP System Event\

and it's called either

SysInfo.exe
or
SysInfoEx.exe

(I'm not sure what comination of the four yours might have.) Just call it like SysInfo-renamed.exe or whatever. I like to reboot for good measure. Then not only will the hotkey do what you want it to do, without the annoying dialog, the dialog is still available should you ever need it.

If your Ctrl-Alt-R were bringing up the HP Recovery Manager, I'd tell you to go rename

C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Recovery Manager\rebecca.exe

as well.

I had the same problem and found the only way to disable the HP recovery software is the uninstall the program.  Changing the shortcut key in the program file properties doesn't work.  Disabling all hotkeys doesn't allow others to work.  Changing the registry doesn't work.  Uninstalling does work.  It doesn't affect anything, because you don't use the program.  You can run it by searching for "HP Recovery Manager" in the Windows search.

In the uninstall window, scroll down to "HP Event Utility" or "HP System Event Utility"  ( or something similar) and uninstall it

The Ctrl-Alt-R and Ctrl-Alt-S hotkeys will no longer bring up the HP recovery software.
