Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

303 and305 are the error messages.  Is hard drive shot for sure?  Are there still recovery discs for this laptop available from HP?  What are my other options for recovery

Yes. You will create Windows 10 installer -best to use a USB flash drive. Read the directions under the Download Tool.

Normally,yes those error codes indicate failed hard drive. I doubt that HP still carries Recovey Media for your model. Are you sure you didn't make yours when first setting up the laptop and maybe put them away?

If you did the free upgrade to Windows 10 you were granted a digital license to reinstall later if needed. The install will ask for license key and you choose Skip. After connecting to internet Windows will connect to MS server where your hardware id is stored.As long as you don't replace motherboard it will activate.

You use the free Download tool on MS site to create a Windows 10 installation on dvd or usb flash drive:

So I just need to replace the hard drive, then do the win 10 install from the MS website?

Awesome thx.  Maybe I'll find a compatible hard drive on Amazon Prime Day today.  for ome reason I'm not seeing the accept as solved, but Ithink I'm good.  Thx much...
