I wrote a document which I thought I had saved. It seems that it has been 'captured' by Cloud and I cannot access it / retrieve it because I don't have the "Office" package. Any ideas clever people? Thanks Peter R

I suspect I don't understand your actual problem.
"Cloud" capture is not something that usually happens - cloud storage options are those you have either installed (for example iCloud for PC) or are installed as part of Windows (OneDrive).
Generally,
You have the option to leave the item in the cloud storage or "download" it to your device (local copy).
How the cloud storage treats your files is controlled in the Settings for the cloud storage software.
For example ...
Read about Microsoft OneDrive:
Sync files with OneDrive in Windows
Important:
Support for the old OneDrive for Business sync app with SharePoint Online will end on January 11, 2021.
If you see the double cloud icon on the right corner of your taskbar, read this article to learn more.
What if?
Assuming something "other" than the loss of OneDrive Business / SharePoint is the issue,
If you do not have any Office software installed,
You can generally open Office files using the Free Online Microsoft Office

Thanks for your response. I did try downloading it - it went into my downloads but I still couldn't open it / extract it because "you do not have Office" said the machine.
I will try your tip for the free version (and then try to get rid of Cloud)
Many thanks again
