elitebook 8440p
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

OK so we (my dad and me & someone else) are repairing a Elitebook  8440p for my dad and i'm wondering Even if the elitebook 8440p doesnt support windows 10 - does it support windows 8/8.1?

i'm only asking cause my dad gave me to 2 licenses and was wondering if the elitebook 8440p supports windows 8/8.1 cause then i can give him 1 of the licenses while my lenovo has the other

- cause the way i see it - if it doesnt support windows 10 then at least it would support windows 8 or 8.1 lowest

so the question - is it offically support or is there a list of supported devices for windows 8/8.1 ????

Hi:

All I can tell you is that there is no official W10 driver support by HP for the 8440p.

I have the model that preceeded the 8440p (the 6930p) and it runs W10 just fine.

But mine does not have a webcam, and I do not use any of the security features like the fingerprint reader, so I cannot report on those devices.

All the drivers are installed though in the device manager, and I used the W7 drivers for whatever W10 didn't install, such as the card reader and HP 3D driveguard.

ok so no support - well at least we got windows 7 which is the os ment for it and stable & supported until 2020 - anyways thank you for helping me

You're very welcome.

If you have the W7 recovery disks, you can always try the free upgrade from W7 to W10 and see how you like it.

You can also revert back to W7 within 30 days pretty easy if you don't delete the Windows.old file.

As I wrote, my older Elitebook 6930p runs W10 just fine, so unless you use the fingerprint reader or webcam, I don't see why the 8440p wouldn't run W10 just fine as well.

Actually i don't think he'll use the fingerprint reader at least to me i don't think he will and for the webcam i think the same and since windows 8 + 8.1 / 10 might have the drivers in basic form for the webcam to work it might just be a matter of testing it - i say that cause i had a G74sx from asus which is an old gaming laptop which didn't support 10 and it ran just fine under it and even the webcam worked

also another reason it's currently waiting for repair is cause installing windows 10 did some grey  magic  on it and now the motherboard gives a mainboard dead code which we ordered the motherboard a few weeks ago ..should be arriving some day now

i say installing windows 10 did something cause that's the last thing we tried (tried has in it didn't finish installing) to do to it before it went black screen with the mainboard dead code

so either some bad luck like i had with 2 of my other laptops like this one or it was about to go and we just didn't pay enough attention to the signs that it was about to go - either way it's gonna be fixed soon

oh and we don't got the recovery disk which i could just use an iso from the version it takes from the digital river mirror

one user's experience - I did an in-place upgrade to win10 and had lots of hassles. Second try I wiped my ssd, started with a fresh install of windows 7, added the hp-related software, registered my fingerprints, then upgraded to win10. Even with the anniversary update, all has been super stable on my 8440p.

of course ymmv.
