Driver for HP m6-k010dx for ACPI\HPQ6007 on Windows 7

Hello,

I am looking for a driver for the "Unknown device" ACPI\HPQ6007 on HP ENVY m6-k010dx Sleekbook for Windows 7 64-bit. Is there any available driver for this device?

Thanks much, that was quick. I went through half a dozen of those that were not compatible for my computer and was about to give up. +1 kudos.

Btw, where do you find those, in case I need another driver some day?

You're very welcome.

That is a relatively new hardware ID and I was helping someone else with the same driver.

The older ProtectSmart hard drive devices ended in 0004, then they went to 6005, I believe, now it is 6007.

His notebook's W8 support and driver page just happened to have the driver listed where yours doesn't (which surprised me).

Fortunately, the driver listed on that model's support and driver page also supports W7.

I was lucky in this case.

How I normally find W7 drivers for these new PC's is to cross reference them with older models that came out before W8 came out, that have the same or similar hardware.

As newer models are introduced, with newer chipsets and hardware, finding W7 drivers will be increasingly harder to do.

Plus I am not aware of any HP business models that have come out that have the new Intel series 8 chipsets, 4th generation core processors or Radeon HD 8xxx graphics.

That is the other way I find drivers for the consumer notebooks which are only supported for the current windows operating system in effect at the time of their production (now W8).

I find a business model with the same hardware and post the drivers from that model. Most HP business PC's are supported for Windows 7 and XP Professional.

Many of the drivers from these business model PC's will work on the consumer models as well.

Hi,

I'm currently doing a windows 7 install on the same machine and am having a ton of trouble.  Can anyone point me towards the direction of some of the drivers?  I would take help for all of them but particularly right now  I can't seem to get the USB 3.0 ports to work.

Hi:

You need to install the AMD chipset driver from the link below.  First file listed.

For the video, you need to get the AMD driver.  HP won't have W7 drivers for the graphics in your model/

Run the driver verification tool and it should link you to the driver you need.

Try the windows 7 drivers from this model (except the graphics).  Don't use any BIOS or Firmware Files from this link.

I was just a little discouraged because the first link for the AMD Chipset did not install its USB 3.0 driver.  Should I just continue with your instructions?

Yes, continue on. I am surprised the USB 3.0 driver didn't install as you can see the usb 3.0 driver is listed as part of the chipset driver file pack.

I'm not giving up so easy.

Download that chipset file again.

Then do the following.

Download and run the free 7-zip file utility.

Now, use that to extract the files from that chipset download into a folder.

Next, go to the device manager and click on one of the usb 3.0 controllers that needs a driver.

Click on the driver tab.

Click on Update Driver

Select the Browse my computer for software method and browse to that driver folder 7-zip created wherever the driver file downloaded to (probably the Download folder in your user profile).

Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and hopefully the usb drivers will install that way.

So I actually have been trying this and I get an interesting error.  It says:

"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it."

"AMD USB 3.0 Host Controller"

"The system cannot find the file specified."

I'm googling all over but I can't find too much help.  I'm seeing similar issues where people modified the .inf file to get it too work.  Any ideas?

I am stumped.

Usually, either the direct or manual install works.

Unfortunately, I don't have any other ideas you can try.

If you figure it out, please post back and let us know what you did.
