Ubuntu LTS

I got a dual boot Windows 10 / Ubuntu Linux setup using the information from this thread:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Boot-and-Lockup/Dual-Boot-Windows-10/m-p/6862744#M150756

Now I have some strange problems that make me hesitate to use the machine.  When I go into Linux and check on the boot with the terminal:  efibootmgr -v  it lists a ton of boot entries.  Each time I log in to linux and check, it will add a boot entry.  Recently it was like this:

At other times it does not have the 0000 listed as the first Ubuntu (it just keeps adding them and sometimes uses a different number associated with Ubuntu).  Why are new boot additions constantly being added, occasionally used or not, both for ubuntu and the hard disk? Why are some boot entries, like the USB and CD/DVD taken off the screen when they used to be there before?  Note that when I go into the BIOS I even tell it that it should check the USB drive first, and that isn't even listed.

For the BIOS's boot manager (F9) it also lists about a dozen ubuntu boot options.

Obviously this is weird.  It appears to add new boot sessions on to infinity.  Everything works the way Windows and Linux are supposed to, but this boot information is so weird that I wonder whether it will have a problem soon.

The bottom line question is this:  Is there something that can fix this so the boot manager stops adding new entries?  Please help!
