Hi,
I have a dual boot Windows HPZ640 with windows 11 and Ubuntu 20LTS, running out of HD space and want to add a new 1 TB SSD, have installed it and when I boot in Ubuntu, works ok and sees it, when I boot in Windows 11 (insider program) it crashes the system. I have even cloned the current ssd with Crucials Acronis true image and swapped the hhds still crashes in windows.
Any help much appreciated.
Hadi.

I'm sorry, but HP does not provide support for Linux distros.
IF you replace the preloaded Windows OS with a Linux distro, or add a Linux distro, then you assume full responsibility for maintaining that -- including solving any problems with booting the other OS and/or installing the other OS.
Modern PCs with UEFI, instead of the older BIOS, are especially difficult to install because you have to go into the UEFI settings and make several changes before you can even boot from a USB stick -- and we are unable to assist in that work.
Your best bet for support now is to contact the support forum of the distro you are using.
Since you are using Ubuntu, go here: https://ubuntuforums.org/
Good Luck

Hi WaWood,
Thanks for the reply. I narrowed down the problem to either the Storage driver or the hard disk. I attempted a clean install of Windows 10 on the SSD (Crucial MX500), could see it, Downloaded all the drivers for mobility, stuck them on a flash with bootable Windows 10 Pro Workstation. Needed to install the second compatible Intel driver, then attempted to install Windows system crashed. Had a normal Hybrid SATA 2TB attached worked fine. Something wrong with Drivers or the SSD (seems to be some in the web), might not be compatible with HPZ640.
Hadi.

You do know that Win11 is still in Beta, meaning it will be buggy and driver support spotty at best?
Also, HP is not providing any compatibility information prior to the release, so we have not idea which, if any, current HP devices are compatible with Win11.

Thanks WaWood,
Yes I know that Windows 11 is beta, thats why I checked the hardware with windows 10 which is the supported OS for Hp Z640, so to narrow down issue. Ubuntu works ok with ssd. Definitely some compatibility problem with Crucial MX 500 ssd / intel storage controller or driver. I actually had another unopened ssd and checked that one also. So seems to be some mention of problems with windows 10 installation on Crucial Mx 500 ssds on different forums.
