System works normally on battery power. But have recent BSOD since connecting to AC power... Please advice, if any

Experiencing a BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) when connecting your HP ENVY x360 15 to AC power can be caused by various factors, including driver conflicts, power settings, or hardware issues. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot.

 

Update Power Management and Battery Drivers:

  • Go to Device Manager > Batteries > Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.
  • Right-click and select Update driver.
  • You may also want to update drivers for Microsoft AC Adapter and any other related power management components.

Update Display and Graphics Drivers:

  • Sometimes, BSODs are triggered by outdated or incompatible graphics drivers, especially when the system switches between power modes.
  • Download the latest graphics drivers from the HP Support site or directly from Intel/NVIDIA/AMD if your model uses these graphics cards.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Make sure your system is up-to-date with the latest Windows patches and updates, as some updates may fix compatibility issues with power management.

Adjust Power Settings:

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options and select High performance or create a custom plan that does not limit processor performance when plugged in.
  • Disable Fast Startup as it can sometimes interfere with the transition between power modes. (Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do > Change settings that are currently unavailable).

Test with Another Power Adapter:

  • If possible, test with another compatible HP adapter to rule out issues with your current power supply.

Run Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Use the HP Hardware Diagnostics tool to check for any hardware issues, especially with the power or battery components. Restart your computer, press F2 at startup, and run diagnostics.
