Hi  @sfoslick

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand you're encountering Error 0xC00404 while using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool, and I'd be happy to help.

To better understand the situation, could you kindly confirm the below details :

  • Are you running the recovery process on the original SSD/HDD that came with the notebook or on a replacement drive?
  • Did the error appear immediately, or after the recovery image (M50913-001.iso) started downloading?

In the meantime, kindly try the  below steps and confirm :

  1. Restart the PC and launch the HP Cloud Recovery Tool again using Run as Administrator.
  2. Temporarily disable any VPN, proxy, or third-party security software during the download process.
  3. Ensure you have sufficient free disk space available on the drive being used to create the recovery media.
  4. Connect to a reliable internet connection and, if possible, try a different network.
  5. Verify that the date, time, and region settings in Windows are correct.
  6. If you are using a USB drive for recovery creation, kindly use a USB drive with at least 32 GB of capacity and reconnect it directly to the notebook.

You can also refer to this HP document that specifically addresses Cloud Recovery Tool Error 0xC00404 (InvalidObjectState): HP Cloud Recovery Tool Error 0xC00404 - InvalidObjectState

The 0xC00404 error this indicates that HP Cloud Recovery Tool is unable to successfully retrieve or validate the recovery image associated with the system.

This may happen due to a download interruption, image validation issue, network-related communication problem, or a temporary issue with the recovery image repository.

Kindly try the steps above and let us know the outcome.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
