Hi @fuarikashinkaku,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for explaining what happened. I understand that the laptop has been unused for several months and, now that you are trying to start it again, you are seeing an “Exhausting DST” message and Windows is not loading.

A DST message is related to a diagnostic check of the system storage drive. Before we assume the drive has failed, I recommend running the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI test so we can determine whether there is an actual hardware issue. HP specifically recommends using the diagnostics when Windows does not start.

Please run the HP Hardware Diagnostics

  1. Turn the laptop completely off. If it is currently stuck on the error screen, press and hold the Power button for at least 5 seconds.
  2. Turn the laptop back on.
  3. Immediately start pressing the Esc key repeatedly, about once every second.
  4. When the Startup Menu appears, press F2.
  5. The HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI screen should open.
  6. Select Component Tests.
  7. Select Storage.
  8. Select Quick Test and then choose Run Once.
  9. Allow the test to complete.

The Quick Test checks the storage drive, including the SMART Check and Short DST Check.

Most important
Once the test finishes, please let me know exactly what result you receive:

  • Passed
  • Failed
  • Or any Failure ID/error code that is displayed.

If the test reports a failure, please do not format or reset the laptop yet, particularly if you have important college files stored on it. Write down the complete Failure ID and share it with us so we can determine the appropriate next step. HP diagnostics also records the results in the Test Logs.

If the Quick Test passes but you continue receiving the DST message, let us know the exact message on the screen, and we can proceed with the next appropriate diagnostic step.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
