HP 17 Laptop PC 17-cp3000 (799U8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I just purchased this laptop 10 days ago from Costco. I now notice that device encryption is not enabled. Upon further investigation I found the system summary which shows the reason for failure as follows:

Device Encryption Support Reasons for failed automatic device encryption: Un-allowed DMA capable bus/device(s) detected

To be sure it wasn't something I did, I booted from a newly created Windows Recovery USB and re-installed windows from scratch. Still no device encryption. At this point, I would lilke to know how to resolve the issue. Failing that, is the problem specific to my unit or this model in general. If the former, I'll replace it with the same model. If the latter, I'll return it and purchase a different model.  Coincidentally, I just setup a similar HP laptop for a family member using the exact same setup sequence. That unit shows device encryption without issues. Suggestions much appreciated. By the way Costco tech support has not been able to resolve the issue.

@flroots,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

I am not familiar with your HP 17 Laptop PC 17-Cp3000 (799U8AV), but the first question that came up in my mind is did you enable Secure Boot and Windows UEFI mode in BIOS?

Kind Regards,

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, I restored BIOS to default. I also installed the latest BIOS.
