OMEN by HP 15-ax214tx Laptop PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I went to update the BIOS to F.56 as per the HP Support tool, and immediately after restart received the error

Recovery

Error code 0xc000000f

The first issue was a required device isn't connected, then next was File:\\windows\system32\winload.exe with that error code

I have to go into BIOS, turn off Secure Boot Manager, Disable Secure Boot and enable Legacy Support, and allow it to boot to the HDD.  This was the only way I could get to my desktop

MY warranty expired a year ago.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,

I understand you are getting an error message after the BIOS update. I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue.

Recover the BIOS using a keypress combination:

  1. Turn off the computer and be sure that the AC adapter is connected to power.

  2. Press and hold the Windows + B keys, and then simultaneously press the power button.

Keyboard highlighting the key presses for BIOS recovery

  3. After 2 to 3 seconds, continue to press and hold the Windows + B keys, but release the power button.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I tried that then got the response that I don't have anything to restore. I don't have a usb stick and have been trying to solve this without one

@tembulon

Thank you for posting back.

I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  • Firstly, remove the hard drive from the computer.
  • Once the hard drive is removed turn on the computer without the hard drive- While booting as the computer doesn’t detect a hard drive so it’ll automatically roll back to the previous bios.
  • Put the HDD back in and turn it ON. It might give an error about the improper shutdown. Just click continue and it should boot to windows.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

The 0xc000000f error occurs on Windows system due to several reasons such as:

  • Damaged/Corrupted Boot sector of Windows
  • Unable to load Windows Boot volume
  • Hard disk Corruption or failure
  • Corruption in the File system
  • Virus or malware attack
  • Missing system files

To fix this issue, you can try the below methods:

Method 1: Run Bootrec.exe command in Repair mode

Method 2: Make sure Boot partition is active

Method 3: Repair the MBR and Boot sectors

Method 4: Rebuilding the BCD

Method 5: Run CHKDSK Scan

Method 6: Check your Driver, Data cable & BIOS

Further, I suggest you to check the below link that explain all the measures to fix the issue:
