I reset my laptop back to factory settings and now it says preparing automatic repair. Then says “your pc has ran into a problem And needs to restart. We will restart for you” and then says “your pc ran into a problem and needs to restart. We are collecting some error info, and then we’ll restart for you”. Error code 0xc000021

Hello @Ben63
Welcome ! Please, provide some details.
1. Did you manage to complete the entire recovery process ? Were you greeted with a message that it was successful ?
2. Despite this BLUE screen error (known as BSOD), are you able to boot successfully ?
3. What was the original reason for the factory reset ?
4. Would you mind performing a hardware diagnostics now (just to rule out hardware problems) - here is how to do it >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JXUp43ahHA
Please, report back the test results.
Looking forward to your reply.

hi,
I haven’t tried recovering as I want the laptop to be wiped clean.
No I can not boot successfully, it just comes up with the messages quoted in my original post.
The reason for the reset was just to clear the laptop as I had too much stuff on there and only really need it for invoicing and emails.
I have ran a memory quick check which has failed (see image below). I have also ran a hardware quick check which had passed. I am now running and extensive hardware check just in case.
Thanks

Your problem (actually the symptom) is known as Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). BSOD is kind of Windows self-protection feature. If you received a blue screen error, or stop code, the computer has shut down abruptly to protect itself from data loss.
A hardware device, its driver, or related software might have caused this error. In your case, the problem is caused by faulty memory module. The root cause is a hardware failure - your memory (RAM chip) module has failed or is about to get failed.
You need to open your computer, get the faulty module out and buy a new one of the same type. Currently you should have 8 GB DDR3 RAM, your new one must be the same:
- DDR3L
- 8 GB (2x4)
- same speed/frequency

You can buy the memory from a reputable local tech store, order it online or check the HP Parts Store >> http://partsurfer.hp.com/
Here is an article >> https://support.hp.com/nz-en/document/c00820047
Here are some video instructions (use as an example) >> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRr1EpNuwTY
Once you replace the memory chip, the issue should be resolved. Let me know if this helps.
