Hello dean37,
I can't do anything with this error message which you give to me.
Can i have the product number of your laptop?
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108
When you give me the product number I can find the exact model of your laptop so i can provide good support.
Please give me a bit more information about your problem.
Do you get it from Windows, do you get it inside a Program. It's totally guessing for me right now.

I had the same problem and I solved it.
You do not need to delete the HP Support Assistant
Open the HP Support Assistant.
Go to HP Messages.
You should see a message that says upgrade HP Support Assistant.
Click on it. It will pop up another screen.
On the top right side, you should see Download latest version.
Download it and you should be all set.
