Ran the Hard Disk check, after the quick scan got red text saying "Hard Disk 1 Fault"

Looks like I need to get a new hard drive, not sure if I should buy a new computer at this point, this laptop has been with me since 2012.

Anyway, thanks for the help, the disks work and will probably help other people experiencing the same problem as me. I am going to mark your answer as the solution as my computer needs some physical repairs.

Thank you for the provided feedback and for the update.

It is up to you if you want to buy a new PC or just replace the HDD.

If you decide to replace the HDD - there are variety of options - vendors you can choose from. You can get it online or from PC retail store, or from HP parts store http://partsurfer.hp.com/

You can also consider installing SSD instead of HDD - this is strongly recommended as SSDs are way faster, more repliable and lighter. More info on SSDs:

Important notice - you need HDD with the very same size/capacity as the current one or bigger (small will not work) - e.g. if your current HDD is with 500 GB capacity, your new HDD/SDD must also be 500 GB or with bigger capacity.  Otherwise the recovery DVDs may not work properly.

I checked and based on the official specs, your PC uses HDD 320 GB - 2.5 inch SATA - 5400 RPM

If you decide to replace it, I would replace it with either SSD 500 GB or

HDD 500 GB or 1 TB but 7200 RPM. 5400 is too slow.

What is HDD RPM > http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/r/rpm.htm

Hope this helps.

New problem.

Hard drive received from friend, 320GB.

Hard drive test passed.

however...

System memory check failed, error code 200. 57% of memory working fine

Seems like this computer has more broken components than I thought. Not sure what to do now.
