HP 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-cp0000 (2Q7W8AV)

Hello everyone,

Today, I installed 8 GB of RAM into my laptop, bringing the total to 12 GB. I wanted to increase my GPU VRAM from 512 MB to 1 GB, but I couldn't do it because the advanced settings in my BIOS are missing. Could someone please tell me how to access the advanced settings?

Here are a few details about my system:

  • Windows 11
  • BIOS Version: F.26 (It can be downgraded to F.12 Rev.A)
  • Ram: (Slot 1:8GB; Slot 2:4GB)

Thank you!

Hi @Redouanino,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Accessing the advanced settings in the BIOS to change the GPU VRAM allocation can be tricky. Here are a few steps you can follow to potentially unlock these advanced settings.

Step-by-Step Guide:

Check BIOS Key and Access BIOS:

  • Ensure you know the correct key to enter the BIOS. For HP laptops, it is typically Esc, F10, or Del.
  • Restart your laptop and press the correct key repeatedly as soon as the HP logo appears.

Look for Advanced Options:

  • Once in the BIOS, navigate through the menus to find any "Advanced" tab or section. This may not be visible by default.

Enable Advanced BIOS Features:

  • Some HP laptops have a hidden feature to show advanced settings. Try pressing Ctrl + F10 or Ctrl + A when you are in the BIOS. This key combination may reveal additional options.

Update or Downgrade BIOS:

  • Sometimes, newer BIOS versions hide certain settings. Since you mentioned you can downgrade to an older version (F.12 Rev.A), it might be worth trying that. Download the F.12 BIOS from the HP support site and follow their instructions to flash it.
  • Ensure you read the instructions carefully and back up any important data before proceeding.

Access Advanced BIOS Settings via Boot Menu:

  • Some HP models allow access to more settings through a special boot menu. Shut down your laptop, then hold down the Windows + B keys while pressing and holding the power button for 2-3 seconds. This can sometimes trigger a different BIOS menu.

Alternative Solutions:

Integrated GPU VRAM Allocation:

  • Windows and most modern operating systems dynamically allocate VRAM as needed for integrated GPUs. You might not need to manually adjust this setting, as the system can manage it automatically, especially with more RAM available.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
