HP Pavilion 17-e137cl Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Windows Event Viewer secure boot error, F39 Bios dated 3/24/17. I checked my BIOS & secure boot is active, but the respective certificate must be too old.  I checked & Insyde has recently updated F39 BIOS. I went to HP support & it recognizes my laptop model, but doesn't show BIOS updates for it. Does anyone know where I can find an F39 BIOS update for my PC i.e., HP model e137cl? Thank you

Hi @sbrittin,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Pavilion e137cl laptop is reporting Secure Boot–related errors and you’re looking for an F39 BIOS update that does not appear on the HP support site. Let’s go through a few steps to clarify what’s happening and what you can safely do.

Confirm the latest BIOS officially released by HP
HP only publishes BIOS updates that are validated for each specific model.
If the HP support page for the e137cl does not list a newer BIOS, then the currently installed version is the latest one HP has released for this system.

Do not use third-party or Insyde BIOS files
Even if Insyde shows a newer F39 BIOS for similar platforms, those files are not model-specific.
Installing a non-HP BIOS can cause boot failure or permanently damage the motherboard.

Verify Secure Boot configuration in BIOS
Restart the laptop and press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
Confirm that UEFI mode is enabled, Secure Boot is ON, and Legacy Support is disabled.

Reload Secure Boot keys
In BIOS, look for an option such as Restore Factory Keys or Load Default Secure Boot Keys.
This refreshes outdated or corrupted certificates without requiring a BIOS update.

Reset BIOS to default settings
In BIOS Setup, choose Load Setup Defaults and save changes.
This clears configuration conflicts that can trigger Secure Boot warnings in Windows.

Check Windows boot configuration
In Windows, open System Information and confirm:

BIOS Mode = UEFI

Secure Boot State = On
Incorrect boot configuration can generate Secure Boot errors even when BIOS is correct.

I hope this helps.
