Hi,
I need help for my laptop because today it had a sudden breakdown. I tried to start it and started to correct the disk which got stuck at 74%, then I decided to restart the pc. Once this was done he went into diagnostics and signals a failure ID saying "short dst: FAILED".
Entering the error code on the hp website tells me that the disk is probably to be replaced as the problem cannot be repaired. I would just like to be able to recover the data above it since I can no longer enter as it automatically goes into diagnostics without even allowing me to enter safe mode.
The Failure ID is UC1WL1-8PLA2P-XD7X7F-60UN03
Can someone help me?
Thanks in advance

Hi
Either run a Linux in LIVE mode and hope the disk is still accessible (if in doubt please ask);
OR
Remove the Hard Disk, and replace with a new one. Mount the old in a USB caddy and hope it is still accessible.
So... The error message is -- Hard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure
Manuals and drivers are here....
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05087748 Page 60
and it probably has one of these... 1-TB, 5400-rpm, 2.5-in 778192-005
The OS is here....
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
or
From 2016 onwards there is a possible recovery option via the cloud...
HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 7 & 10)
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06162205
Please ask again after studying the manuals etc.

I removed the HD from the pc and connected it with an usb cable to another pc. So now windows detected a new device connected but I don't know how I can search inside of it because it doesn't appear in "My PC" as usual. There's an application I have to install to search inside an external HD with a SO installed yet (but the HP pc told me that there isn't a SO anymore)?
Now I'm trying to use applications to recovery deleted files from an hard disk but it takes hours to do this and I don't know if it works or not

Hi
Try...
Make a DVD/USB of Linux Mint.... put it in the PC with the missing hard drive and boot it up.
After a few minutes you should see something like this....
Then when you are ready you can plug in the caddy (if the My PC has not been effective) and use Gparted to look for/at the HDD for existing partitions.
Then the File Manager to look for files, it is giving you a second string to your bow.
If in doubt please ask.
