@ZIA786, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your fingerprint lock is not working on your HP Notebook with Windows 11, it’s likely due to missing or outdated drivers or Windows settings. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you resolve it:

Step 1: Check Device Manager for Fingerprint Sensor

  1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Biometric Devices or Unknown Devices.
  3. Look for entries like:
    • Synaptics WBDI
    • Validity Sensors
    • ELAN WBF Fingerprint Sensor
    • Goodix Fingerprint

If you see a yellow warning icon or no biometric device listed, proceed to Step 2.

Step 2: Install or Update Fingerprint Driver

You can install the correct driver using one of these methods:

Option A: Use HP Support Assistant

  1. Download and install HP Support Assistant.
  2. Open it and click Check for updates.
  3. Install any available Biometric or Security drivers.

Option B: Manually Download from HP Website

  1. Go to Official HP® Support
  2. Enter your HP Notebook model number.
  3. Select Windows 11 as your OS.
  4. Download and install the Fingerprint Sensor or Validity/Synaptics/ELAN/Goodix driver listed under Driver-Security.

Step 3: Enable Windows Hello Fingerprint

  1. Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
  2. Under Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello), click Set up.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to register your fingerprint.

If the option is greyed out or missing, ensure your fingerprint driver is correctly installed and Windows is fully updated.

Step 4: Run Windows Updates

  1. Go to Settings > Windows Update.
  2. Click Check for updates.
  3. Install all available updates, especially optional driver updates.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • If the fingerprint sensor still doesn’t work, try uninstalling the driver from Device Manager and restarting your PC. Windows may reinstall it automatically.
  • Ensure BIOS is up to date. You can check for BIOS updates on the HP driver page for your model.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
