I am trying to reset the laptop to factory settings or to simply add a profile to a laptop that was donated to my nonprofit and the donor did not give their pin code to allow us to unlock the computer. Is there a master unlock code that can be used? I am very much a novice with computers so please be kind and break it down step by step please. Thank you!

@AllyKat77, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Sure, I can help you with that! Let's start with the factory reset process for your HP laptop. Here are the steps:

Factory Reset Your HP Laptop

  1. Restart your laptop: Click on the Start menu, select the Power button, and choose Restart.
  2. Access Recovery Mode: As soon as the laptop starts to reboot, press the F11 key repeatedly until the HP Recovery Manager screen appears.
  3. Select Language: Choose your preferred language and click "Next".
  4. System Recovery: Select the "System Recovery" option.
  5. Factory Reset: Choose the "Factory Reset" option and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

Adding a New Profile

If you prefer to add a new profile without resetting the laptop, you can do the following:

  1. Open Settings: Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings window.
  2. Accounts: Select "Accounts" from the menu.
  3. Family & other users: Click on "Family & other users".
  4. Add someone else to this PC: Select "Add someone else to this PC" and follow the prompts to create a new user profile.

Unlocking the Laptop

Unfortunately, there isn't a universal master unlock code for HP laptops. If you can't access the laptop due to a forgotten PIN, you might need to perform a factory reset as described above.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
