HP Spectre x360 - 13t-ap000 CTO

Bought this for my daughter in 2019 and it is getting long in tooth.  Replaced battery once last year, but it is starting to freeze randomly and new battery life draining faster than it should.

"Feels like" a good old reset to the factory settings may solve the problem - but sadly this isn't supported by the HP cloud recovery tool.  I can't find any obvious software conflicts but I'm assuming 5 years of use has accumulated a fair amount of digital detritus on this unit.

Looking for advice on if I should go with a 3rd party recovery media site like https://www.computersurgeons.com/p-30829-windows-10-home-64-he-64-recovery-kit-part-number-920182-00... as I've seen on other posts or take a shot first at using Windows 10's normal refresh/reset.  Any other ideas are appreciated!

Miss the days where the manufacturer would be a recovery partition on the HD and you could just do this low risk/hassle!

Yes, you can try the 'Reset this PC' option first and if that still doesn't work, you may want to try a clean install of W10 and then install the drivers and available software from the support page.

You can make a bootable W10 USB installation flash drive with the media creation tool from the link below.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

HP Spectre x360 - 13t-ap000 CTO Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support

If neither works, I recommend you go with the recovery kit from Computer surgeons.

I was under the impression that HP would allow the cloud recovery tool to be used indefinitely, but I have discovered over the course of the last several months that hundreds of HP PC's that used to be supported by the cloud recovery tool no longer are.

I have checked various models, and it seems like HP is dropping support for the utility at the 5 years of age point.

Really appreciate your quick reply - thanks!  I was kinda surprised they would drop the recovery for "older" legacy Win10 devices if for no other reason than they are the ones most likely to need it.  😁

My guess is - helping keep the older units going instead of "subtly encouraging" folks to let them die and buy new units may be more than an unintentional strategy

You're very welcome.

HP should inform folks to make and keep the USB recovery media as soon as they acquire the  PC because it will only be available until such and such a time on the cloud recovery tool info page.
