HP 15 Laptop Intel 4GB RAM 128GB SSD with MS365 HP Wireless

Hello, I just got a new laptop, my second HP.  Both have washed out displays.  Faded text, hard to see.  Why is this?  This one is brand new and it was the same with my last one.  Can it be fixed??

Hi @tia_tonita,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP 15 laptop's display has become faded and difficult to read, there could be several possible causes for this issue. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to identify and possibly resolve the problem.

  • Brightness settings: Check the brightness settings of your laptop. Press the "Fn" key (usually located near the bottom-left corner of the keyboard) and look for the brightness adjustment keys (usually represented by a sun icon with up/down arrows). Increase the brightness and see if it improves the display visibility.
  • Power settings: Ensure that your laptop is not in a power-saving mode, which might dim the display to conserve energy. Open the Control Panel (or Settings) and go to "Power Options" to adjust the power plan settings accordingly.
  • External lighting conditions: If you are using the laptop in a bright environment, the screen might appear faded due to glare or ambient light. Try using the laptop in a different lighting environment to see if the display improves.
  • Driver issues: Outdated or corrupt display drivers can cause display problems. Go to the HP support website, search for your laptop model, and download the latest display drivers. Install them and see if it resolves the issue.
  • Display settings: Check the display settings on your laptop to ensure that the resolution and scaling settings are appropriate for your screen. Right-click on the desktop, select "Display settings," and adjust the resolution to the recommended setting for your screen.
  • Graphics card issues: Problems with the graphics card can affect the display quality. Update the graphics card drivers or try using a different graphics driver version to see if it resolves the issue.
  • Hardware problems: If none of the above steps work, there may be a hardware issue with the display panel or the cable connecting the display to the motherboard.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello Alden4 and thank you for taking the time to respond.  This computer is brand new out of the box and my last HP pavillion laptop had the same problem, at least for me it's a problem.   Faint text and backgrounds.  Why is this happening?
