HP 215 GI
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I've been having issues with my laptop recently, it was previously stuck on "windows is preparing automatic repairs" and then went into a black screen. One of my friends told me I should let the battery died and turn it back on, which allowed me to run a hard drive diagnostics test. This is what my screen currently says:

SMART check: FAILED

FAILURE ID: 90Q67S-0009N7-TT916K-60DN03

PRODUCT ID: ( the ID number)

Hard Drive 1

And then some text saying a website to go to (it wasn't much help).

Is there anything I can do? I called tech support but I don't currently have $60 to get help. Do I need to wait until I get paid or is there more I can do?

Hi:

The error code reported, Hard Disk 1 SMART Hard Drive Detects Imminent Failure, means that the hard drive is about to fail, or has failed, needs to be replaced and the operating system reinstalled.

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.  The HDD R & R procedure can be found in chapter 5.

It is a pretty easy job that you should be able to do yourself.

You may want to consider purchasing a better performing, normally more reliable solid state drive (SSD).

This one for example, is only $60 on Amazon--the price that HP wants to charge you just for talking to them.

You can reinstall W10 for free by creating a bootable W10 installer using the media creation tool at the link below.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

After W10 installs, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.
