Laptop was running very slow. Tried to go a factory restore. Restore would never finish. Got it to do a system check and if gave me the failure code 9k7cgk-950a8c-mfpurf-60sm03. What does this mean and what do I need to fix it?

Hi:

Below is the link to the failure report generated by the code you posted, minus your notebook's serial number.

You will need to install a new hard drive, and reinstall the operating system.

You may want to consider purchasing a better performing, normally more reliable 2.5" Solid State Drive (SSD).

After you replace the drive, using another Windows PC with W7 64 bit or newer, you can create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.

Here is an info link for how to use that utility...

Thank you for the response! Do you have a recommendation for a new hard drive I can purchase? Also, will I need a license code to download the W10?

You're very welcome.

For a solid state drive, if you can live with 500 GB of drive space, I recommend this one, which has the best performance for the price.

If you just want to replace the drive you have now with an equivalent mechanical hard drive, then I recommend this one...

The W10 product key is in the BIOS of your notebook, so whether you use the HP cloud recovery tool or the Microsoft W10 media creation tool to reinstall W10, you will not need the product key.
