HP Laptop Model K7U03UA 2014
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Failure ID Number GLGATR-79EA66-XD7V6K-60SF03

Hi community I have an older HP laptop was working fine last night this morning when I turned on it gets stuck on the home screen. I can see my background picture but no icons load & a blue circle just keeps spinning. I restarted a couple of times, with the same outcome. I did a function 2, ran a test on the hard drive & received above failure ID number, it is no longer under warranty anyone have any idea what this means THANKS.

Anytime.

Glad to have been of assistance.

If you have a friend that has some knowledge of notebook PC's, it wouldn't be all that hard to do if they could help you with it.

Hi:

The error code reported, Hard Disk 1 Quick Test Failure, means you have to install a new hard drive, and reinstall the operating system.

Below is the link to the service manual, where you can find the hard drive removal and replacement procedure.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04886216

After you replace the drive, you can reinstall W10 for free as follows...

Using another Windows PC, make a bootable W10 installer using the Media creation tool at the link below.

Your notebook came from HP with a 64 bit operating system, so make the 64 bit installation media.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

When you get to the screen that asks you to enter a product key, select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.

Thanks you so much for your detailed information. I will keep this as a reference and anyone else who sees it I’m sure it can help them as well. I wish I were technically savvy enough to do what you recommended, unfortunately I am not 😢 Therefore I will be bringing it to a local computer technician in hopes that they can do this for me without charging an arm and a leg 🙏🏻

i meant to ask you if you believe it best to do the install of a new hard drive or purchase a newer laptop? I use mainly for emails, web surfing & my daughters homeschooling needs as of today. I don’t use for any type of gaming. Thanks for your input.

You're very welcome.

A new hard drive would costs around $50.

I have no idea how much you would be charged to have it installed, because I would be doing it myself.

Maybe $100 labor to replace the drive, and reinstall W10 using the media creation tool?

If the notebook is in otherwise good repair, I would get it fixed because you can't buy a decent replacement for less than $500.

I once again appreciate your reply, I will definitely keep in mind the totals you mentioned & consider once I have my appointment which is set for this Sunday. I agree, if it seems to expensive (more than around $200ish for parts, labor & backing up of my current drive) I'll need to consider an alternative. I've heard it's around $100 just to get a diagnosis, then if accepted that $100 is supposed to be applied to the actual repair cost. So I'm praying all in all it won't be more than the $200 range 🙏🙏🙏
