HP Pavilion x360 - 11m-ad013dx

It keeps saying windows detected an issue and needs to restart and keeps having trouble booting up. It happened out of nowhere. I ran a extensive systems check and got a failure code for the memory test. But when I look up the failure code all it says is it found a critical error in my system and needs to be repaired but doesn't explain how to repair it.

@Staciann58,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

The failure ID code you provided means this:

This RAM-related "critical failure" could mean that your RAM slot is bad or that your RAM module is bad or perhaps doesn't make good contact with the RAM slot -remove RAM stick, inspect for damage or dirt, gently clean with dry cloth and blow out RAM slot with compressed ("canned") air.

If that doesn't work, try out with another RAM stick if you have it, and see if your laptop starts without this error message.

Kind Regards,

Thank you so much for your reply. It didn't go into detail about the problem other than it is a memory issue, so I was confused about what it was saying that's wrong. Do you know what could have caused this issue?

Do you happen to know where the memory slot is located and how to remove it?

@Staciann58,

It is not a common occurrence for a RAM stick to "go bad" -if that is indeed what happened, but it can happen.  There are many reasons why it could happen, from a manufacturing defect, a power surge, to excessive heat, a small liquid spillage on your keyboard, a combination of these, etc.

We don't know yet what is causing your RAM failure issue.  If it is just swapping your RAM module, that should generally be an easy fix. However, as it turns out, HP engineers designed the RAM slot in your laptop model behind the system (mother) board.  I would never have signed off on that design -but I digress.

Here are some YouTube instructional videos to help you accessing the RAM stick: HP Pavilion x360 - 11m-ad013d - RAM Upgrade (WHAT A PAIN!) - YouTube, and especially this video: HP Pavilion x360 m Convertible 11m-ad113dx Complete Disassembly RAM SSD Hard Drive Upgrade Repair - ....

Your laptop likely came with a 4GB DDR3 PC3-12800, 1600 MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, SODIMM, 204-pin RAM stick.

If opening up your laptop, reseating your RAM stick and using canned air to clean out your RAM slot/system board is not fixing your issue, next step would be to replace/upgrade to an 8GB RAM stick. I would buy this inexpensive RAM stick ($13) from Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Silicon-Power-8GB-DDR3L-1600MHz-Unbuffered-SODIMM-Laptop/dp/B07L89T9HQ/ref=sr..., because if something else is going on and replacing the RAM doesn't fix your issue, you can return the RAM and get your money back.

Anyway, this is what I would do.

If disassembling your laptop to get to the doggone RAM is one proverbial bridge too far for you, perhaps you can call on a trusted family member or friend who knows what they are doing and could assist you.

Kind Regards,
