Hi,
A better drive will mean applications open faster and Windows will certainly load more quickly, but it won't make any real difference to how a game performs ( although it will initially load faster ) - for anything meaningfully quicker than the drive I linked to previously, you want to consider a SSD - an example would be the drive below.

Hi,
The 24 character error code does confirm a failure of the short Disk Self Test ( DST ) and would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced. Additionally, the time code indicates the test was run over two years ago, so the rtc clock may need to be reset.
If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - If needed, you can check your warranty status Here.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.
If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know.

Hi,
You're welcome
The drive on the link below is an example of one that would be fine for your notebook.
The procedure to replace the Hard Drive starts on Page 40 of your Maintenance & Service Guide.
Once done, simply use your Recovery DVDs to reinstall the Operating System on the new drive - A full guide on this can be found on the following link.

Hi,
It really comes down to what you feel most comfortable with.
It's not that bad replacing the drive in this model - If you haven't done this before, it may be a good idea to have a friend help as well, but you will save a good amount of money doing this yourself.
