Hi @Barton6

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for sharing the details. The “System Fan (908)” message indicates that the system has detected the cooling fan is not operating correctly, which can affect performance and cause shutdowns.

Let’s go through the recommended steps to address this:

Power Reset

  • Shut down the notebook.
  • Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and AC adapter, then power on the notebook.

Check Air Vents and Fan Area

  • Place the notebook on a hard, flat surface.
  • Ensure that the air vents are not blocked.
  • Use compressed air to gently clean the vents and remove any dust buildup.

Update BIOS

  • Visit the official HP support site: HP Software and Driver Downloads
  • Enter your notebook model.
  • Download and install the latest BIOS update available for your system.

Run HP Diagnose & Fix via HP App

  • Open the HP App on your notebook.
  • Select Diagnose & Fix.
  • Run the tool to automatically check and resolve hardware issues, including cooling fan performance.

Check System Fan Settings in BIOS

  • Restart the notebook and press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  • Under Advanced or System Configuration, ensure that the fan settings are enabled.
  • Save changes and exit.

If the error persists after these steps

  • The cooling fan may need servicing or replacement. HP recommends contacting an authorized service center for hardware inspection.

You can find further instructions here: HP Notebook PCs - System Fan (908) Error

This structured approach should help restore proper cooling performance and prevent further shutdowns.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
