Good afternoon Friends.
I left my HP notebook on all day yesterday. I kinda forgot about it.
Now I'm getting this message. How do I deal with this??? Never seen it before.
Thank You!
Sincerely, Ralph

Hi @ABHenry,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Reconnect Your Drive" message you're seeing on your HP Pavilion dv7-3085dx Entertainment Notebook PC likely indicates that Windows is having trouble accessing an external drive, backup drive, or a network location previously connected. This could happen if a drive has been disconnected, if there's an issue with a USB device, or if the drive went to sleep due to inactivity. Here are a few steps to help resolve the issue.
Steps to Fix the "Reconnect Your Drive" Error:
Check Physical Connections:
- If you were using an external hard drive or a USB drive, ensure it is securely connected to the computer.
- Unplug the drive and plug it back in to see if the system recognizes it again.
Restart the Computer:
- Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Restart your HP notebook and check if the error persists.
Check for Disk Errors:
- If the drive is connected but still not recognized properly, you can check for disk errors.
- Open File Explorer.
- Right-click on the drive showing the error (C: or external drive).
- Select Properties, go to the Tools tab, and under Error Checking, click Check.
- Follow the prompts to scan and repair the drive.
Reconnect Network Drives (if applicable):
- If the drive in question is a network or cloud-based drive, ensure your network connection is active.
- Go to File Explorer and check if the network drive or OneDrive (if applicable) is connected and available.
- If using OneDrive, you may need to sign back in and sync your files.
Verify Backup Settings:
- If the error is related to a missing backup drive (common with Windows backup), go to Settings > Update & Security > Backup.
- Check your backup drive status, and if needed, reconnect or set up the drive again.
Perform a Disk Cleanup (Optional):
- If there's been inactivity for a while, running a disk cleanup might clear temporary errors.
- Open the Start Menu and type "Disk Cleanup."
- Select your main drive (usually C:), and follow the prompts to clear unnecessary files.
Run the Windows Troubleshooter:
- Open Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
- Scroll down to Find and fix other problems, and run the troubleshooter for Hardware and Devices.
After trying these steps, your system should either reconnect the drive or provide more information on the cause of the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Dear Alden.
Thank You...
I think we've got it under control using OneDrive.
Did use an external HD at some point not remembering or only God knows.
Phew!
Any final thoughts please pass them along for security and stability, etc.
Onward,
R
