Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My laptop was running slow so I decided to upgrade the HDD to a Crucial 1T SSD. The clone process was successful, and I replaced the hard drive. The laptop booted up but I could not open any files. Pictures and documents were transfered but I could not open them. I was able to download a different photo viewed and am now able to view pictures. PDG docs can only be opened thru the web. Adobe won't open itself and gives and "Bad Image" Error code. I tried resetting the computer to original setting but the reset failed. Please help.

@JTOME8, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you’re dealing with a few different issues after upgrading your HDD to an SSD. Here are the things you can try:

"Bad Image" Error (Adobe)

The "Bad Image" error in Adobe often indicates that there’s a problem with system files or that the installation itself is corrupted. Since your SSD clone was successful but you’re having issues with opening software, it might have been an incomplete or faulty cloning process.

Reinstall Adobe Software: Uninstall Adobe and then reinstall the latest version of the program.

Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program.

Find Adobe Acrobat or any other Adobe software, uninstall it.

Reinstall the latest version from Adobe’s website.

Run System File Checker (SFC):
Run a command to fix any corrupt system files:

Open Command Prompt as Administrator.

Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.

Let it run and repair any found issues.

Inability to Open Files (Documents, Pictures)

Check File Associations:

Right-click on a file (for example, a PDF or DOC file).

Select Open with > Choose another app.

Select the right program and check the box to always use this app to open these types of files.

Reset Failed

If your reset didn’t work, it might be because the system recovery partition didn’t transfer over to the SSD properly. If you’re looking to reset Windows 10 and restore the system to its factory state, try the following:

Use Windows 10 Recovery Options:

Boot your laptop and repeatedly press F11 (or Esc > F11) to enter the Recovery Environment.

Select Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.

Choose Keep my files (if you want to avoid data loss) or Remove everything if you want a clean start.

Follow the prompts to complete the reset.

Create a Recovery Drive: If you can’t access recovery options, you might need to use another computer to create a recovery USB drive. You can download the Windows Media Creation Tool from Microsoft's website and follow the steps to create a bootable recovery drive. Once created, plug it into your laptop, restart, and boot from the USB.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
