Hi,

I got this laptop for 6 months, and as of last week it started to freeze here and there, with multiple apps running to even only have one open and yet it freezes after 5min or so. I have tried many things, from drivers, firmware, Bios update to even reset my laptop multiple time as if it was coming out of the box.The situation doesnt get any better, sometimes couple hours and then starts pausing and freezing where the only option is to do a hard shutdown.

Also did the /SCANNOW  cmd but nothing, all tests and checks are green! hows that possible. HOWEVER, the event viewer shows dozens of this error "Filter Manager failed to attach to volume '\Device\HarddiskVolume7'. This volume will be unavailable for filtering until a reboot. The final status was 0xC03A001C."

Any idea what this might be?

This is my MBA's private latop and only bought for this carreer and now i am stuck, i cannot proceed with my paper assignments. I do have an IT Engineering degree, so i have tried many things.

regards,

Oz

Hello FrankyOz,

Thank you for posting your concern,

It sounds like you're experiencing significant performance issues with your laptop. Here are some steps you can take to further diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:

Perform a Hardware Diagnostic Test

HP laptops come with built-in hardware diagnostics tools. You can use these to check the hardware components for issues. Here's how:

  1. Restart your laptop and press the F2 key repeatedly to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  2. Select System Tests and choose Quick Test followed by Run once.
  3. If the quick test doesn't reveal any issues, proceed with the Extensive Test which can take longer.

Check for Overheating

Ensure that your laptop's vents are not blocked and clean out any dust that may have accumulated. Use compressed air to gently blow out dust from the vents. Overheating can cause performance issues and hardware malfunctions.

Check for Malware

Run a full system scan with a reliable antivirus program to rule out malware as a cause of the freezing.

Investigate Resource Usage

Sometimes applications running in the background can consume excessive resources:

  1. Open Task Manager (press Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
  2. Check the Processes tab to see if there's any process using a high amount of CPU, memory, or disk.
  3. If an unnecessary program is consuming excessive resources, try closing it and see if performance improves.

Perform a Clean Boot

A clean boot starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs, which can help isolate the cause of the performance issue.

  1. Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
  2. In the System Configuration window, go to the Services tab and check Hide all Microsoft services.
  3. Click Disable all to uncheck the rest of the services.
  4. Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager. Then disable each startup item one by one.
  5. Restart your laptop.

Update or Roll Back Updates

If a recent update is suspect, you might consider rolling back the update to see if it resolves the issue. Conversely, ensuring all updates are applied can sometimes fix bugs that cause freezing.

If after trying these steps the problem persists, it might be best to contact HP Support for further assistance, particularly if it's a hardware issue under warranty.
