My fingerprint scanner is no longer working on my laptop . It worked perfectly until yesterday when it stopped working. I am unable to set it up again in settings as I am being told that there is no compatible fingerprint scanner available. I don't know why this is happening and cannot seem to find a solution online to my problem. Can someone please help me ? Thanks

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?
  • Have you made any hardware/software changes?

While you respond let's try a system restore:

  • System Restore returns your computer to the files and settings from the restore point. Your personal files and documents are not affected. You can also undo a System Restore if the restore does not resolve the issue or if the issue becomes worse.
  • Click here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03327545 to complete the troubleshooting steps.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thanks for your response. I made no hardware/software changes myself but I did update my computer as it came up that an update was available

@AFitzsimons
Thank you for posting back.

Let's try driver roll back and check:

  1. Open the Device Manager (Windows logo key + X  and select Device Manager).
  2. Locate your fingerprint reader in the Biometric Devices section.
  3. Double-click the device to open its properties.
  4. Click Roll Back Driver.
  5. Then click OK. Restart your computer and check for the functionality.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
