Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the fingerprint issue!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Here’s how you can check if your fingerprint reader is supported and enable it:

Check if the Fingerprint Reader is Detected

👉 First, let’s make sure that Windows detects your fingerprint reader:

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Look under Biometric devices or Human Interface Devices for a fingerprint reader.
    • If you see it listed without any warning signs, it’s likely working fine.
    • If there’s a yellow triangle or it's missing, the driver might need an update.

Update the Fingerprint Driver

To update the driver:

  • Right-click the fingerprint reader in Device Manager.
  • Select Update driverSearch automatically for drivers.
  • If no updates are found, visit the HP website and download the latest fingerprint driver for your model.

Enable Fingerprint in Windows Settings

Once the fingerprint reader is detected and drivers are updated, here’s how to enable it:

  • Open Settings (Windows + I).
  • Go to AccountsSign-in options.
  • Under Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello), select Set up.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to scan and save your fingerprint.

Test It Out

After setting it up, lock your screen (Windows + L) and try logging in with your fingerprint. If it works — great! If not, restart your laptop and try again.

If you face any issues or need more help, just let me know! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
