Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000 (680A2AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I did a clean flash of W11, and wanted to install all my drivers, starting with updating my firmware. So, i entered my product id and downloaded necessary drivers. Started installing bios update, it asked me to restart and i did. Then i saw it writing new bios image, then blank screen, then "Firmware update...Do not power off or restart...". I've seen bios update before so i know what happens next and how much time does this screen stay, but it stayed for about more than 2 hours. So i force shutdown by holding power key. When i power on, its on the same screen. I had cloud recovery files, so i tried booting into usb but the bios was not loading. I tried Win + B, and there came the screen telling bios files are not found or corrupted. Then i downloaded bios in other lap, flashed it in usb, connected it, but when i press Win + B, it straight goes to the same firmware update screen, whereas if i press win + b without connecting usb, it shows bios files are not found.

Are usb drivers missing because i did a clean flash?

is my lap unable to read usb? (i tried flashing bios into it multiple times)

treid pressing f10 while usb is connected

I'm stuck in this loop, Please Help.

Thanks in Advance.

Hi @RishikP,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're stuck in a BIOS update loop, which can be a tricky issue. Since you've already tried a clean flash, USB recovery, and the Win + B method without success, I'll guide you through a few potential steps to resolve the situation.

Steps to Recover from BIOS Update Failure:

Confirm USB Setup for BIOS Recovery:

  • Ensure that the USB drive is properly prepared for BIOS recovery. The USB should be FAT32 formatted and contain the extracted BIOS files in the root directory (not in a folder). The BIOS file for HP systems is usually named something like HPBIOS.ROM or HPBIOS.BIN.
  • Download the latest BIOS version from the HP Support website for your specific Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15 model. You may have to double-check your product ID to ensure you're downloading the correct version.

Use a Different USB Port:

  • If the laptop is not reading the USB drive, try different USB ports, especially USB 2.0 ports if available. Some BIOS updates only recognize certain ports during recovery.

Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect the laptop from the charger, remove any external devices, and hold the power button for 30 seconds to discharge any remaining power. Then, reconnect the charger and try again to initiate the BIOS recovery.

Use HP BIOS Recovery Tool:

  • Since you are stuck in a loop, you can try HP's BIOS recovery procedure. Here’s how:
    • Turn off your laptop.
    • Insert the USB drive containing the BIOS files.
    • Press and hold the Windows Key + B (or Windows Key + V) and then press the Power Button for 2-3 seconds. Continue holding the Windows Key + B until you see a BIOS recovery screen.
    • If successful, it should start the BIOS recovery process.

HP BIOS Crisis Recovery Mode (Backup BIOS):

  • HP laptops usually have a backup BIOS chip. If the main BIOS is corrupt, it can sometimes recover automatically from the backup BIOS.
  • Follow these steps:
    • Disconnect the power and remove the battery if possible.
    • Hold down Win + B, then connect the power cable and turn the laptop on.
    • Keep holding Win + B until you hear beeps or see the BIOS recovery screen.

Clear CMOS (If Applicable):

  • If the laptop has a removable battery or CMOS battery, remove it, and wait for 10-15 minutes. Reinsert the battery and try powering on the laptop. This might reset the BIOS and remove the update screen loop.

Using External Keyboard (If USB Drivers Are Missing):

  • In case the built-in keyboard is not responding, try connecting an external keyboard to see if it responds to Win + B or Win + V commands.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

These are images from my friend's laptop, you can see that the tool is creating folders by itself, (fyi, im using 64gb usb 2.0 pendrive, allocated just 200mb for compatiability with bios, rest unallocated)

you say the files should be in root folder and not in folders right?
