I have an HP xEnvy 360 convertible and was attempting to install the sp87520 firmware but it has stalled at 77%.  What do I have to do to get out of it as it warns me not to turn off the computer and I understand that it with firmware updates I can make it inoperable.

I see that you were interacting with @KrazyToad. I'd like to help.

Thanks for the reply.

I appreciate your time and effort.

Yes, it is legitimate, if it was sent via HP Support Assistant.

However, did you get the update from HP support email or Windows update?

If you get any issue after updating, you can always do BIOS rollback.

Here is this HP document which you can refer to do BIOS rollback:- https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_3932413-2337994-16.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others and please give the same post a Kudos.

Let me know if that helps.

Cheers.

Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

I understand that you tried installing the BIOS but it's stuck at 77% and not completing the installation

I'll try my best to help

May I know why were you trying to update the BIOS? Were you having any issues with the Notebook?

You can try restarting the Notebook and if it doesn't boot up then we will try a BIOS Crisis Recovery

  1. Turn off the notebook.

  2. Plug the notebook into a power source using the power adapter.

  3. With the notebook off, press and hold the Windows logo key  and the B key at the same time.

NOTE: On some notebook models, it might be necessary to press and hold the Windows logo key  and the V key.

  4. While pressing those keys, press and hold the Power button on the computer for 2 to 3 seconds, and then release the Power button but continue to hold the Windows logo key  and the B or V key until the HP BIOS update screen displays or you hear a beeping sound (usually 8 beeps).

  5. The HP BIOS Update screen displays, and the BIOS update begins automatically. This might take several minutes, and you might hear additional beeping sounds.

If the issue persists, you can download the BIOS from another computer onto an external device and install it on your Notebook

Keep me posted how it goes

Hi Toad,

He was installing an update that came thru the HP Support Assistant. The download file is called ME Firmware Update - sp87520. I've downloaded the file but have not completed the update. I've run the program and a screen comes up that is awkwarddly worded, kind of like spam email with missing words. So i quit at that point. I've seen other messages where people are asking if this is legit. Do you know about this update? Is it legit?
