A couple of weeks ago my screens starter "flickering", often jumping from a Firefox window to an OpenOffice window. Quite annoying. The net suggested it was caused by a bad BIOS (UEFI). So I attempted to update my UEFI, by several methods suggested (all wrong), and even by starting up in Safe mode. One advice said if the Task Manager display didn't flicker then it wasn't the BIOS. I tried that, it didn't flicker. I downloaded a new version of Open Office, no improvement. I used Edge to read some stuff, it flickered also. It even flickers, jumps from screen to another when one of the screens is a text document.
Suggestions ?

Ok, searching here and elsewhere on the internet, I found many suggestions to solve my problem: All Wrong - but one. Microsoft mentioned that a Reset performs a clean install of their operating system, so I tried it. It took about 40 minutes, but it's automatic so one doesn't have to sit there watching it. I should also note that when the flickering had started, that my machine had slowed noticeably.
After the Reset, the flickering has stopped and the laptop had sped up considerably (so far). Checking the current UEFI (BIOS) version, I see it is still the same (F.55), by the way; so it would appear that the UEFI was not the culprit, Windows was. One problem, however, did come back with the Reset: the touchpad started operating again, despite my having a usb mouse plugged in. Once again, searching the internet yielded many, many wrong solutions, but one, a very simple one: instead of going to Settings, go to Start and search for "Elan touchpad settings" which pops up the right popup, facilitating disabling the Elan touchpad.
Now, for the moment, I am a happy camper again.
