Hi @FannieR,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The lights on your laptop are indicators that provide information about the current state or activity of the device. Generally, the light that is always on indicates that your laptop is powered on or is in sleep mode if it is a power indicator light. The flickering light next to it could indicate several things depending on its color and pattern of flicker. Here are a few common possibilities:
Hard Drive Activity: A flickering light often represents hard drive or SSD activity. This means the light flickers when the hard drive is being accessed, reading, or writing data. It's normal for this light to flicker frequently as your operating system accesses the drive for various tasks.
Wireless Activity: Some laptops have an indicator light for wireless activity. This light flickers when there is data being transmitted or received over your Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connection.
Battery Charging: If the light is near the battery symbol and flickers or changes color, it might indicate the battery charging status. For example, it might flicker or change color when the battery is charging or when it is nearly full or fully charged.
Processor Activity: Less common, but some laptops might have an indicator for CPU activity, showing when the processor is being heavily utilized.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
