Hi @walraj,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I'm sorry you're facing uncertainty about encryption on your HP Laptop 15-dw2xxx; it can be confusing to navigate such settings.

  • Are you looking to encrypt your entire hard drive, a specific folder, or specific files?
  • Is your laptop running Windows 10 or 11, and do you know if it's a Home or Pro edition?
  • Have you checked if BitLocker or another encryption tool is installed on your device?

Let's try these steps.

Check System Specifications:

  • Confirm if your laptop supports encryption by opening System Information (type msinfo32 in the search bar) and checking for "Device Encryption Support" under the "System Summary."

Verify Windows Edition:

  • Go to Settings > System > About and check the Windows version and edition. BitLocker is available only on Pro, Enterprise, and Education editions.

Enable Device Encryption:

  • If supported, go to Settings > Update & Security > Device Encryption. If the option is available, you can turn it on directly.

Enable BitLocker (if applicable):

  • For Windows Pro and higher, go to Control Panel > System and Security > BitLocker Drive Encryption and follow the prompts to encrypt your drive.

Explore Third-Party Tools:

  • If your laptop doesn’t natively support encryption or you’re using Windows Home, consider tools like VeraCrypt for file or drive-level encryption.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
