HP Pavilion - 15-cw1095nr
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I got this laptop  15-cw1095nr from a buddy and the hard drive was corrupted. Eufi wouldn't recognize it at all. Tried reseating it to no avail. So I bought a replacement. I got a new 256 gb wd 770 for it but  not sure how to reinstall windows (I get the bootable USB part, but where's a safe place to get it?) Also what about windows activation? It was my friends wife's, she passed away about 6 months ago so getting into the windows account it was originally registered to is out of the question. Also, figured while I was in it I'd add another 8 gb of ram in the empty slot. Got one with the same parameters as the one in it. Do I need to do anything else to get it to recognize it? Lastly I have a Seagate sshd 500gb sata drive I'd like to toss in and get going but I think I can do that once I get windows up and running. Parts are installed but I haven't even turned it on yet. Want to make sure I have what I need. As far as my level of experience doing this type of stuff, I was a+ certified but it was 15 years ago so I know the basics but am far far behind modern tech. Thanks for any help i can get.

Hi:

Make a bootable USB recovery drive with the HP cloud recovery tool.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility.  You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the recovery media with.

HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Customer Support

You can download the software from the Microsoft Store.

HP Cloud Recovery Tool - Microsoft Store Apps

Since you have to use the utility on another PC, you will need to enter the notebook's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed to make the recovery media.

Your PC's product number is:   5ZC04UA#ABA
