Before I go to the drastic step of resetting my laptop, I'd like to try one last thing.
2 weeks ago, when my laptop was new IMMEDIATELY AFTER I SIGNED-IN, I would see a screen photo of a snowy field (and at the bottom a task bar). And nothing else. NOW, HOWEVER, that snowy field is covered with "tile icons" (is that the right wording?) The tiles consist of: news, weather, x-box,store, skype, fallout shelter, groove music, movies &tv, HP jump start and many others with icons but no name. This is stopping me from using windows icon. How in the world do I remove this unwanted field of icons/tiles and get back to the plain photo of the snowy field ?
Please, please keep your answer VERY SIMPLE because I'm new at this and I will not understand computerese
Thanks so much for your time.

The answer turned out to be embarassingly simple. All I had to do was to lok at the task bar , locate the new message icon (into the extreme right of the task bar) that little square. tap it on and look at the bottom of that screen. Is the TABLET MODE HIGHLIGHTED ? If yes then click it and you should see "tablet off". That's it
All of those bothersome "Tiles/icons" cluttering up my entire screen, have vanish---as if by magic

I had a "live chat" with a windows10 expert and he walked me throught a diagnosis. It seems that in the TABLET MODE those blasted tiles happen automatically. All I had to do was to pull up the notification window and at the bottom the tablet mode was highlighted blue. So, all I had to do was click it off. Problem solved.
